After attending the last Sacred Beauty Salon Series with Rebecca Casciano, I felt inspired to share the experience. But how can one put into words the beauty of such a transformational day? One part soul-detoxing therapy session. One part makeup lesson. All parts fabulous and 100% worth the investment.
It’s late December in NYC and a cool winter light fills a cozy room in Chelsea. Women of all ages and backgrounds are gathering; the energy in the room is palpable. Smiles broaden as old friends greet one another and new friends are introduced and welcomed with open arms. The room is alive with color and texture and life and laughter. We nosh on fresh veggies with hummus, vegan chocolates, and delectable raw pumpkin seed milk with spices that a guest brought to share. Rebecca Casciano, the fire-haired maven who brought us all together, invites guests to sit in a circle, and get comfortable. We begin with a guided meditation. Amber glass candles flicker and as the flame dances, we draw deeper into the present, experiencing our breath entering and exiting our lungs. We release fear and insecurity. Sacred silence fills the room and expands across us like a blanket.
This is a safe place.
Then we are given a writing prompt and asked to reflect. We dig deep into the spaces which we normally guard. Silence again, except for the scratching of pen to paper. We are wildly liberating these feelings from our hearts. They are spilling out onto the page. Who knew there was so much to write? Afterwards, it’s time to share. I raise my hand and as I read, I can feel my face flush. In a world of disconnect we are rarely asked to be so vulnerable. Others share, too. We laugh. Some cry. We feel free, and connected, and empowered in a way none of us really expected.
As the day progresses, women who started out strangers, have become sisters. Rebecca shares her expert makeup tips. We gather around mirrors and adorn ourselves with the most beautiful organic makeup products. Compliments rain down like sparkly confetti! “That red looks gorgeous on you!” “Jess, your brows are amazing!” This feels like one big grown-up slumber party and we love every minute!
In her soothing voice, Rebecca gives closing remarks of encouragement. Is it time to leave already? How did four hours zoom by so fast? Guests look even more radiant than before, but it’s more than the glistening highlighter on cheekbones, and newfound vibrant lipstick… We are all glowing from within. There is a new lightness in our soul and I am reminded of the quote,
“she was the type of woman
that made every room
with her freedom”
After Sacred Beauty Salon Series, we have each become that woman.
